What is DNS? Your domain name address is actually a long set of numbers that would be very hard to remember so we use descriptive words and let the (DNS) Domain Name Server translate the domain name into sets of numbers (IP address) xxx.xx.xxx.xx so that a browser can locate your site. When you register a domain name you are asked for two servers
a primary and a secondary (DNS) Domain Name Server. Your domain name is considered parked at the servers you specify. When you register a domain name with abcYourDomain.com it is parked on a primary and secondary DNS until you are ready to use it. We provide this service free when you register a domain name with us.
-
Where do I get information about DNS? There are two DNS fields in the registration form which are optional. You may register a domain name without DNS information and abcYourDomain.com will park your domain name free on a DNS until you are ready for it. When you are ready to put your site on line (typically with a web hosting company) the hosting
company will supply you with the new numbers which you can change through your free "Domain Management" account. The hosting company would become your new DNS host but your domain name would still be registered through us.
-
How do I change the DNS information? If you have your domain name registered through abcYourDomain.com go to "Domain Management" on our site. You will be asked for the username and password you designated at the time you set up your domain account. If you misplaced this information through email it will be sent to the email address on
the account.
-
How long does it take for DNS changes to take effect? The propagation period is typically between 48 and 72 hours. This is standard in the industry. The whois registry databases update
automatically. Propagation is the time required for the new nameserver to add the information and the old nameserver to remove the information.
